Mr. Treg Marcellus is in his 13th year at Theodore Roosevelt High School as Director of Bands and is in his 21st year of teaching in Iowa.  He directs the Wind Syphony, Jazz I, co-directs the Roughrider Marching Band, and teaches History of Rock N Roll, techniques classes, independent study, and lessons. Mr. Marcellus previously taught at Prairie High School and Middle School in Cedar Rapids for five years and Oxford Junction Schools for three years.

A native of Humboldt, Iowa, Mr. Marcellus graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree in music education and euphonium performance from the University of Iowa in 1991, and received his Master of Arts in Teaching from Coe College in 1997. He also has completed post graduate work from The University of Iowa, Illinois State University, and Drake University. Under his direction the band at Roosevelt has doubled in size and has received consistent Division I superior ratings at State Large Group Contest, State Marching Band Contest, State Jazz, and at other concert, marching, and jazz band festivals since 1999. His jazz bands have participated at the Iowa Jazz Championships 5 times and has won many contests around Iowa, Illinois, Florida, and California. His concert bands have also won 1st place at the Musicfest Contest in Orlando, FL in 1997 & 2001, 1st place and the overall sweepstakes award at the Heritage Music Festival in Los Angeles, CA in 2003, and 1st Place at Festival Disney in Orlando in 2007 and 2009.

Mr. Marcellus is an active member of the Iowa Bandmasters Association and Past-President of the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association. He is a member of many other committees at Roosevelt and in the Des Moines Public Schools, an advisor and board member for “The Iowa Ambassadors of Music”, and is a 2001 and 2005 member of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”.  He is a 24-year member of the Iowa Army National Guard in which he spent six years as a Forward Observer in the HHC 1/194 Field Artillery and now holds the rank of Sergeant First Class in the 34th Army Band in Fairfield, Iowa where he is director of the 34th Army Bands Rhythm Majors Dance Band. Treg and his wife Carla have two children, Colton who is a junior at Roosevelt and Kaylie who is a 8th grader at Merrill.
 
Mr. David Steinke is in his 4th year as a music educator in the Des Moines Public Schools and his first as Assistant Director of Bands at Roosevelt High School. Mr. Steinke also serves as 5th Grade Band Director for Hanawalt, Hubbell, and Windsor Elementary Schools, while also teaching Roosevelt’s Jazz II, the Symphonic Band, and the World Drumming elective course at Roosevelt. Mr. Steinke previously taught at Hoyt Middle School, Brubaker Elementary, and North High School before teaching at Roosevelt.

Originally from Bettendorf, Iowa, Mr. Steinke received two undergraduate degrees from the Iowa State University in Visual Fine Arts and Music Education. In beteween degrees, Mr. Steinke was a professional grapghic designer/screen printer in the Quad Cities area for three years, as well as a percussion consultant with the United Township High School Marching Band program.

As a percussionist, Mr. Steinke has an extensive background working with high school programs, including Ames, Dowling Catholic, West Des Moines Valley, and Des Moines East High School Marching Band programs. Mr. Steinke recently finished his Master’s degree in Educational Technology from Full Sail University developing research in sightreading applications and music theory resources to help students enhance their musical skills. Mr. Steinke is a member of the Iowa Bandmasters Association, South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association, and the Percussive Arts Society.
